THE NDW COMMUNITY PROJECT The Community Project is one aspect of NDW which can be easily adapted to the needs of individuals involved in academic classrooms, social agencies, community groups, non-profit organizations or any similar public service endeavors. It entails a commitment to conduct some dance-related event or activity during National Dance Week within the environs of the person’s choice and the options are as varied as the individual’s interests. SUGGESTED ACTIVITIES AND AVAILABLE GUIDES For the Academic Teachers Sample Lesson Plans to bring NDW into the classroom syllabi Studies of dance history Career options affected by dance education backgrounds Student Regional Director roles wherein events are mounted in classrooms and schools or on campuses For the Social Agencies, Community Groups and Charitable Organizations Dance-a-thons • Sittercise Classes Poster Contests • Dance Presentations Museum Dance Displays • Library Displays and Readings Parades • Community Dance Day | |||

HOW YOU MAY BECOME A "CAREER MENTOR" THROUGH NATIONAL DANCE WEEK | |||

• Apply for membership in the NDW Volunteer Mentor List • Commit to volunteering a small percentage of your time to inform, educate, guide and advise young people • Have a willingness to assist individuals seeking potential careers in ALL fields of Dance • Have a strong desire to see public awareness raised concerning the Dance Arts • Be eager to assist young dancers and the National Dance Week efforts 6 EASY STEPS TO BECOME PART OF THE CAREER MENTOR PROGRAM: 1. Obtain application from National Dance Week Website or Mentor Program Chairman. 2. Fill out and return application. 3. Once selected, agree to your address and/or Email listing on NDW Website and NDW publications. 4. Be available to any inquiries for your expertise, knowledge, guidance and assistance. 5. Inform, advise, guide and assist your assigned youths. 6. Take a Mentor's Bow and add to your own resume. | |||
